Operator Verification Policy
Every verified operator on Safarani has been checked against Tanzania's official licensing registers. Here's exactly what that means.
TALA Verified badge
What it means
The operator has provided evidence of a TALA (Tanzania Tourist Agents Licensing Authority) tour-operator licence — either a specific licence number, or an explicit licence-class declaration on their official website. TALA is the Ministry of Natural Resources & Tourism body that licences tour operators in Tanzania.
What it does not mean: The TALA badge is not an endorsement of tour quality, safety standards, or customer service. It confirms only that a licence claim existed and was sighted at the time of listing. TALA does not currently publish a real-time, searchable public register, so where an operator has not published a specific licence number we record the class they declare on their own site. We recommend travellers ask operators directly for their full licence number before booking.
TATO Member badge
What it means
The operator has self-reported membership of TATO (Tanzania Association of Tour Operators). TATO is the leading industry association for Tanzania's tourism sector and maintains a code of ethics for members.
What it does not mean: TATO membership is currently self-reported by operators. We encourage travellers to independently verify TATO membership at tato.or.tz.
How we verify
Operator submits listing with a TALA licence number, an on-site licence-class declaration, or a TATO membership claim.
Our team confirms the evidence at source: a licence number against any available register, or the licence-class declaration on the operator’s official website.
Verified badge is applied to the operator profile. Unverified operators appear without a badge.
We periodically re-verify listings. If an operator removes the on-site claim or the number no longer checks out, the badge is removed.
How operators are ranked
Listing order on Safarani is not paid and cannot be bought. Operators are ranked by the strength of their trust signals, in this order of weight: a verified TALA licence (the largest factor by far), TATO membership, KPAP accreditation, public reviews on their profile, whether the operator has claimed and maintains their own profile, a company-domain email address, and overall profile completeness. Operators who combine a verified TALA licence with strong supporting signals carry a “Highly trusted” mark. No operator can pay to improve their position — the only way up is stronger verification.
Report a suspicious listing
If you believe an operator is misrepresenting their credentials, or you've had a bad experience that raises safety concerns, please contact us at hello@safarani.co.tz with the operator name and details. We take these reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
Operators without a badge
Not every listed operator carries a TALA badge. An operator may be unlisted in the TALA register, have a pending verification, or operate under a different license structure. The absence of a badge does not necessarily mean an operator is not legitimate — always do your own due diligence.
