The northern section of the old Selous was upgraded to Nyerere National Park in 2019. The southern section remains a game reserve open to hunting. Most tourists visit the Nyerere National Park zone.
Is a boat safari worth it?
Absolutely — it is one of the most unique safari experiences in Africa. The Rufiji River is teeming with hippos, Nile crocodiles, and waterbirds, all viewed from boat level.
