Best time to visit

June – October

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be very fit?

The Sanje Waterfall hike is moderate — good general fitness is enough. Longer multi-day routes into the mountains are more demanding. Talk to your operator about the right route for your fitness level.

Can I do a day trip from Dar?

Yes, but it is a long day — 4 hours each way. An overnight stay near the park gate is strongly recommended. Mang'ula has simple but comfortable guesthouses.

Travel tips

  • Hire an official park guide — mandatory for all hikes and worth every shilling
  • The Sanje Waterfall trail is the most popular (3–4 hours return) — start early
  • Carry at least 2 litres of water per person for full-day hikes
  • Wear proper hiking shoes — trails are rooted and sometimes slippery
  • The park is one of Tanzania's least-visited — enjoy the solitude
