May – October
The dry season offers the most comfortable trekking with firm trails. Chimps can be found year-round, but wet season (Nov–Apr) makes slopes slippery and sightings can require longer searches.

How does Gombe differ from Mahale?
Both offer chimp trekking but Gombe is smaller, cheaper, and carries the historic weight of Jane Goodall's research. Mahale is more remote and has a more luxurious lodge scene. Many visitors do both.
Can I visit Jane Goodall's original camp?
Yes — the Gombe Stream Research Centre is within the park and most guided visits include a stop to learn about the famous long-term chimp study begun in 1960.
